Choosing the right scale

SVG is resolution-independent, so pick the scale for where the PNG will be used:

  • 1×: the file's native size. Good for previews and documentation.
  • 2×: the default for websites and apps, so images stay crisp on high-density (Retina) screens.
  • 4× to 8×: app icons, favicons generated from small icons, print mock-ups, and slides.

How do I convert SVG to PNG?

Does the PNG keep a transparent background?

Yes, by default. Untick Transparent background to fill it with a colour of your choice instead, which is useful for JPG-style previews or platforms that show transparency as black.

What resolution will my PNG be?

The output size is the SVG's intrinsic size multiplied by the scale. A 24 × 24 icon at 8× becomes 192 × 192 px; an 800 × 600 illustration at 2× becomes 1600 × 1200 px. The exact output size is shown before you download.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Conversion uses your browser's own renderer and a canvas element. The SVG never leaves your device, and there is no file size limit beyond your device's memory.

Why is text in my PNG in the wrong font?

If the SVG references a font that is not installed on your device or embedded in the file, the browser substitutes one. Install the font, embed it in the SVG, or convert the text to outlines in your design tool before exporting.
